The 1500 is probably one of the oldest and most influential pencils out there. It was first produced in 1888 and wrote pencil-history when it won a Grand Prix Award at the 1900 Paris exhibition. The Koh-I-Noor 1500 was the first pencil to feature the iconic yellow varnish. In an effort to copy the Koh-I-Noor 1500 many pencilmakers painted their pencils yellow.
Even if it might not be the most glamourous pencil out there, it certainly is bedrock in the pencil universe.
In my experience the Koh-I-Noor 1500 is true to its grade.
