Democracy is made with a simple pencil mark on a ballot. At least in Denmark the people are voting using Viking’s Valblyant. This pencil was created by the Danish pencilmaker exclusively to be used in the official government elections. The barrel features a small hole, so it can be attached to the election booth using a piece of string. It is sturdier sporting a thickness of 10mm. These election-grade pencils (pun intended) sport a core that is graded as 2B, however, feels more like a 3B to me. It leaves a rich, dark, and saturated stroke.
With the Valgblyant’s design clearly taking hints from Viking’s famous Skoleblyant, Viking has also created a second, alternative version featuring a red core and black varnish. So opposed to elections, you are not limited to select one, you are free to choose both pencils…
